The Application Process
Applying Biblical Knowledge to Your Life
Introduction
Knowledge without application is pointless. In James 1:26 he says that if a man claims to be religious but doesn't keep a tight reign on his tongue, his religion is in vain (pointless). Knowledge thats never used then becomes vain as well. So, why is application so hard? Is it the uncertainty of what is to come? The fear of losing "self"? Or maybe the fact that one is no longer in control? You can have all the biblical knowledge in the world; you can have 150+ verses memorized, but if you DO NOT APPLY what you know DAILY, you'll either lose that knowledge or you'll just keep it in the back of your mind waiting to be released.
Another issue one faces with application is the lack of understanding of said knowledge. One must understand whats known. We know that Yeshua said, "pick up your cross and follow me", but unless we understand what that means, our knowledge of said verse is pointless. So, with that said, knowledge without understanding is pointless as well.
Unfortunately, there's one more thing we need because, without it, both knowledge and understanding is pointless. Wisdom. Proverbs 4:7 says that "wisdom is principle thing..." (hence why Solomon prayed for it), so if wisdom is the "principle thing", whose wisdom are we looking for? The obvious answer should be YHWH's right? But is that true? There's a reason Paul says, " If any man among you seemeth wise in the world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise." Then he goes on to say that "the wisdom of the world is foolishness to YHWH". Paul also says, "wisdom from above is pure". So, its clear that there are two types of wisdom; Worldly and Spiritual. Yes, we should definitely seek spiritual wisdom, but we must throw away our worldly wisdom for it to be effective.
So, with all that said, we now, hopefully, know that there are 3 essential keys we need when it comes to the Application Process: Knowledge, Understanding, and Wisdom. We need knowledge to know how to apply, understanding of what we're applying, and wisdom to know when and how to apply. Application is crucial in a believers walk. We have to apply everything we learn DAILY or else we don't bear fruit; we remain fruitless. The disciples weren't able to cast out that demon because they didn't apply the teachings of much fasting and praying (something most of us lack).
Without application, we're just another book on the shelf collecting dust. So, again I ask, Why is application so hard? I would say, overall, its the fear of losing yourself for christ. The Bible constantly teaches us to "deny the flesh", and in order to deny the flesh, we must deny our self and let YHWH.
Control is another major factor. We not only have to lose self, but also let YHWH make our decisions and ultimately let YHWH run us. Thats scary because we don't always know whats coming. We like to be the operator of our lives. We really like to simply be in control. There has to come a time, however, when we learn how to let YHWH be YHWH. You hear all the time that you got to "let God break you so he can build you on a solid foundation", but whats does that mean?
I know, from my personal experience, that I've been broken down to rubble, and was at the point where I was ready to take my life, and I told YHWH, "Look I'm done. Either you take over and change me or I'll end it all right here and now." Guess what. Nothing happened. Obviously I didn't kill myself, but I was still the same stupid me.
The point is, no matter how "broken" you are, unless you truely are willing to put on that blindfold and let YHWH steer, nothing will happen. You have to be willing to put yourself through the hell of not knowing and literally let YHWH take over 100%. I wish there was an answer to "How do I apply?", but I don't have it. Practice is the best got (oh yeah and this study!). Practice being Christ. Practice WWJD and then do WJWD!
